I was reading an article yesterday about becoming. It was all about aspiring to become a new and improved version of ourselves. The focus was on what we want to become, the on new attributes, behaviours and ways of being.
It set me thinking.
I have a different perspective on this.
If we really want to become our real and authentic self and we want to ensure our well-being from a physical, mental and emotional and spiritual perspective, there must be elements to unbecome, activities or traits that we want to stop doing.
Perhaps thoughts and unconscious behaviours that hold us back or hide our authentic self. Or perhaps there are behaviours and expectations that we use to hide behind?
I believe it doesn’t work to just give attention to the woman we are becoming. It has to be about what we are unbecoming to ensure our total wellness and our total authenticity.
What do we need to unbecome before we can become our true self?
What about your own unbecoming?
What would you like to let go of?
What sabotages you in being real and authentic?
Letting go of anything that holds us back or stops us achieving what we want to achieve is key to moving forward. As well as a focus on what we want to become, there has to be a focus on what we are letting go of or unbecoming.
How can we fully become our authentic self if we haven’t let go of some of the unhelpful traits, beliefs and behaviours that undermine us and hold us back from becoming who we want to be?
Part of the process of renewal involves peeling back those layers and shedding them. It needs to be done before we can truly become…
What would you like to unbecome or let go of?
Consider how you can become an observer of yourself. Become your own coach. Approach what you are doing and saying with a sense of curiosity. There is no judgement, no right or wrong, no good or bad. It is just becoming aware and accepting. Then you know what you want to ‘unbecome’ as well as what you want to become.
What are you in the process of unbecoming?
What do you want to let go of to become?
Unbecoming the woman who thought she had to please everyone else and had forgotten to focus on herself and what pleased her.
Unbecoming the woman who pretended to be something she wasn’t to fit in with conventions.
Unbecoming the woman who feels she has to wear a mask. She wore it more and more until it became who she was. She is now unbecoming that woman.
Unbecoming the woman she thought she had to be to receive approval.
Unbecoming the woman who still looks outside of herself for love and validation.
Unbecoming the woman driven by fear or pain.
Unbecoming the woman who is scared to speak up. Scared to demand what she deserves.
Unbecoming the woman who thinks she’s not good enough.
Unbecoming the woman who has forgotten to love and honour herself.
Becoming the woman who is real and authentic.
REMEMBER YOU. What do you want?
What do you need to unbecome so that you can become the real you?
What layers need to slip away and be left behind?
Journaling Prompts
Some journaling prompts to help you shed those layers. Perhaps find a wonderful journal, a favourite pen. Choose something that feels luxurious and a wonderful place to capture your thoughts and the woman you are becoming.
Just read the prompts and let the words and sentences download. No censoring. Just capture your first thoughts Then, look at what you have written. What information does it provide you with? Are there some areas you want to change your life? Are there some thoughts or beliefs that you have which are no longer helpful? Remember! No judgements just curiosity and acceptance for the woman you are becoming.
Ignoring convention means?
Not pleasing everyone means?
If I please everyone then?
I’m pretending to be?
If I’m not liked. This means ? about me.
Speaking and using my voice to state my needs means that?
Being good enough means?
Not being good enough means?
Being me means?
Being real and authentic means?
All my love
